Purple for Prevention of Violence Against Women

πŸ“… On Wednesday, April 24, wear purple to advocate for women's safety. See how to participate below!

April 21–27 is Prevention of Violence Against Women Week in British Columbia, and we invite you to take part in a powerful show of community support for survivors of abuse in the Central Okanagan through our Purple for Prevention campaign!

Every 6 days on average, a woman in Canada is killed by her intimate partner. Whether it’s a purple ribbon, shirt, or a full-on purple outfit, your participation shows survivors they are seen, believed, and supported. By coming together as a community, we will raise awareness, break the silence, and take a stand against violence. See below to participate & download shareable resources here!

Why This Matters

Sexual and intimate partner violence affects thousands of women, families & individuals in BC every year. Last year alone, our team at Elizabeth Fry Society supported 1,616 clients, and saw a staggering 9,935 service activations (phone calls, emails, walk ins, inquiries for help). We saw a 42% increase in new clients, and a 52% increase in those reaching out to us for help.

Survivors of violence deserve safety, support, and the opportunity to heal.

At the Central Okanagan Elizabeth Fry Society, we provide free, confidential services including trauma-informed counseling, victim support, court accompaniment, Indigenous services and more. Your support helps us meet the rising demand for these essential services.πŸ’œ Thank you!!
